Bhadrapada Masam Festivals Dates in Telugu Calendar (August/ September)
Bhadrapada is the sixth lunar month in traditional Hindu calendar. Bhadrapada month is not good for marriages gruhapravesams (Housewarmings)it is considered as shunya masam. This is also the second month of rainy season there many and festivals that are celebrated to overcome the ill affects of the rainy season.
Bhadrapada masam in North India begins on Tuesday, 23 August and ends on Thursday, 22 September
Bhadrapada masam in South India stars on August 28 and ends on September 25.
Some of the auspicious days in the month include Vinayaka Chavithi or Ganesh Chaturthi, Swarna Gowri Vratam, Rishi Panchami, Jyeshta Devi Puja, Anant Chaturdashi and Prostapadi Shraddha.
Some Hindu communities perform Tarpan and Shraddha for dead parents and relatives during the Mahalaya Krishna Paksha period of Bhadrapada month (September 14 to September 28).

Mahalakshmi Vrat begins on Shukla Ashtami during Bhadrapada month which comes after four days of Ganesha Chaturthi. Mahalakshmi Vrat is observed for sixteen consecutive days which ends on Krishna Ashtami during Ashwin month (as per Purnimanta calendar followed in North India). Depending on leaped and skipped Tithi during fasting period, total fasting days might reduce to fifteen days or might increase to seventeen days. The fasting is done to appease and seek blessing of Mahalakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity.
Bhadrapada Shukla Ashtami is also observed as birth anniversary of Goddess Radha which is popularly known as Radha Ashtami. The day, when Mahalakshmi Vrat begins, is significant as this day coincides with Durva Ashtami Vrat when Durva grass is worshipped. The same day is also observed as Jyeshta Devi Puja which is performed for three consecutive days.
