Children born in the Hindu month of Chaitra, Vaishakh, Jyeshtha or if the child is the eldest of the house, then Mundan rites should not be performed in this month.
According to Astrology, it is considered auspicious to perform the Tonsure rites/Keshkandan/Hair cut ceremony/Mundan ceremony-during the odd years, i.e. 3rd, 5th or 7th year for boys and even years i.e. 2nd, 4th, 6th or 8th year, for girls.
After the mundan ceremony, the head is cleaned with holy water and then turmeric and sandalwood paste is applied to heal the cuts caused during the process.
Friday and Wednesday are the best days for a haircut if you follow Hindu Santana dharma.
