🌼 Who is a Guru?

Guru is a Sanskrit term meaning a mentor, guide, teacher, expert or spiritual master. The word Guru literally means “Dispeller of Darkness”. A Guru removes ignorance and guides the disciple towards wisdom, knowledge and Self-realization.

गुशब्दस्त्वन्धकारः स्यात् रुशब्दस्तन्निरोधकः ।
अन्धकारनिरोधित्वात् गुरुरित्यभिधीयते ॥

The syllable Gu means darkness and Ru means the remover of darkness. Therefore the Guru is the remover of ignorance.

📜 Guru in the Upanishads

यस्य देवे परा भक्तिः यथा देवे तथा गुरौ ।
तस्यैते कथिता ह्यर्थाः प्रकाशन्ते महात्मनः ॥

The Shvetashvatara Upanishad teaches that one who has devotion towards God and the same devotion towards Guru receives the true understanding of spiritual knowledge.
